Howe Park Shooting Leaves 4 People Shot in Arden-Arcade Sacramento

Officials in Sacramento County are examining a shooting incident that took place Saturday night April 18 at Howe Community Park at the moment Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were shutting down an unsanctioned gathering of several hundred people.

What Led to the Shooting

Law enforcement were first called to Howe Park at approximately 6:30 Saturday evening after obtaining information of persons possibly in possession of concealed weapons. Not long after, another report was received describing a potential altercation taking place inside the park.

Air support conducted an aerial sweep but was unable to locate the reported altercation. However, it was evident that a crowd of several hundred had come together at the location in an unauthorized manner.

How the Shooting Unfolded

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies worked to disperse the crowd by forming a perimeter and broadcasting over loudspeakers commanding the assembled crowd to go home. Approximately 15 minutes were allowed for attendees to disperse.

As the crowd was being cleared that 20 to 25 gunshots echoed through the night. The sudden gunfire sent the crowd running in all directions. Officers at once began finding those who had been shot.

The Shooting Victims

Altogether, four people were discovered with shooting injuries. The shooting victims — made up of one woman and three men each apparently in their twenties — were rushed to hospitals in the Sacramento area. Doctors and nurses stated that two were treated for serious injuries, one victim's injuries were classified as moderate, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. According to authorities, each of the four victims was stable.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District provided support and provided medical assistance those with gunshot wounds at the scene.

What Investigators Found

The primary shooting scene was confirmed to have been concentrated along Cottage Way alongside the local Home Depot located at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Law enforcement investigators located further ballistic evidence in the form of shell casings scattered along Cottage Way. Round impacts were identified in the wrought iron fence alongside the Home Depot. This ballistic evidence confirmed that at least one shooter had been firing southward from along Cottage Way toward the Home Depot. The nearby Home Depot was put under lockdown while the scene was active. Crime scene technicians and detectives kept processing evidence late into the evening.

Detainees in Solano County

Intelligence received via scanner audio confirmed that check here a suspect Kia was contacted by law enforcement in nearby Solano County. Four occupants were taken into custody. Sacramento law enforcement were en route to collect those detained to transport the detainees for further questioning. Video evidence revealed that two shooters had been involved.
